FAW Volkswagen terminates production of Audi Q5

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- FAW-Volkswagen officially stopped the production of the Audi Q5 (Typ 8R) on October 9, thus the Audi Q5L will no longer share the same sales channel with the Audi Q5, according to local media.

As the first premium medium-sized SUV model under the Audi brand, the Audi Q5 made its world’s debut on April 19, 2008. Then it was brought into China as an imported model in 2009 via FAW-Volkswagen, who initiated the trial production of the model at its Changchun plant in December of the same year. In November, 2010, the China-made Audi Q5 formally went on sale in the world’s largest auto market.

During the past eight years, the locally-produced Audi Q5 has gained great popularity among Chinese consumers. In addition, the Audi Q5L, the change-over model of the Audi Q5, hit the market in China on July 6 this year, which has been highly recognized by users for its fine quality and reasonable price.

According to the data released by Audi, the sales of the Audi Q5L and the Q5 aggregated 11,128 units in September. It is reported that the Audi Q5L will draw additional capacity from the stopped production of the Audi Q5, expecting greater marketing performance in the future.
