Shanghai (Gasgoo)- FAW-Volkswagen is expected to manufacture the all-new EA211 1.5T Evo engine at its Chengdu engine factory in 2022, according to local media outlets.

FAW-Volkswagen to produce 1.5T engine as replacement of 1.4T engine

Satisfying the Emission Standard China 6b, the yet-to-be-produced engine will gradually replace the existing 1.4 engine. In the future, it will be used in such models as the Sagitar and the Golf.

Since the locally-produced version hasn't been made yet, we hereby take the powertrain of the Golf sold outside China as reference. The all-new 1.5T engine used in the overseas-made Golf has two power variants that can pump out 110kW and 96kW respectively with corresponding peak torque of 250 N·m and 200 N·m. Besides, fuel consumption has been further reduced for the all-new 1.5T engine—4.9L/100km for the higher-power variant (compared with 5.7L/100km for the 2018 version) and 4.6L/100km for the lower-power variant, which was reduced by 0.8L/100km over the 2018 edition.

The all-new 1.5T engine boasts a number of new technologies and devices such as atmospheric plasma spraying (APS), electronic control cooling system, variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) and the Miller cycle with high compression ratio. In spite of the unchanged power parameters, the all-new 1.5T engine still features lower fuel consumption, less hazardous substance emission, more smooth dynamics experience and reduced turbocharged lag compared with the former engines. Thanks to such improvements, the new engine achieves a thermal efficiency up to 37.5%, even higher than that of Toyota's 1.2T engine and 2.0T engine.
