FAW-VW’s Foshan plant to produce MEB platform-based BEVs from 2020

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- FAW-Volkswagen (FAW-VW) is scheduled to mass produce several new EV models based on Volkswagen’s MEB (modular electric drive matrix) platform at its Foshan plant from 2020, according to an environmental impact assessment report from local authority.

The yet-to-be-manufactured new models include an “A SUVe”, a “Lounge SUVe”, an “Audi SUVe” and an “Aero A”, said the report.

A SUVe

According to the aforesaid report, the “A SUVe” measures 4,565mm long, 1,845mm wide and 1,621mm tall with a wheelbase spanning 2,765mm, positioned as a compact SUV. It also features a measurement similar to that of the Tayron (4,589mm*1,860mm*1,660mm, wheelbase 2,731mm).

Powering the BEV will be a ternary-lithium battery pack, which is set to be offered in two versions based on battery capacity. Specifically, the 55kWh battery supports a range of 350km, while the 83kWh enables a range up to 480km.

Moreover, the A SUVe is said to provide four-wheel-drive system.

Lounge SUVe

The Lounge SUVe is in all likelihood the ID.ROOMZZ, which was unveiled at the 2019 Auto Shanghai, a local media outlet speculated. The 5-meter-plus-long BEV model is expected to be mass produced as early as 2021, setting models like Tesla's Model X as rivals.

With a 82-kWh battery pack, the ID. ROOMZZ boasts a range of up to 450 km (WLTP) or 475 km (NEDC, China), respectively before the battery has to be recharged. In about half an hour, the concept car can be recharged to 80% of its capacity via a fast charging system with 150 kW (DC).

Two electric motors can continuously drive both axles with a system output of 225 KW / 306 PS (electric 4MOTION). The ID. ROOMZZ can accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and reach top speeds of up to 180 km/h (electronically regulated), according to Volkswagen Group.
