Three Jeep-branded PHEV models said to be rolled out in China

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Three Jeep-branded PHEV models are likely to be introduced into China market in the near future, according to a local media report, namely, the PHEV options of the all-new Jeep Wrangler, the Renegade and the Compass, which were showcased at the CES 2020 in early January.

The PHEV versions of both the Renegade and the Compass are powered by a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine that can churn out up to 132kW in base form. The hybrids use eAWD technology where the rear wheels are powered by an electric motor, while the 1.3T engine is responsible for driving the front wheels. This allows the front and rear wheels to be operated independently in a more effective way than a fixed mechanical system. Combined outputs under the four-wheel drive mode can reach up to 176kW. Reportedly, the all-electric range of the Renegade PHEV amounts to 50km.

From the time being, the Renegade and the Compass SUVs have been on sale in China in form of locally-produced versions, and also available with 1.3T variants.

Revealed at the CES 2020, the all-new Jeep Wrangle PHEV displays a striking resemblance to the fuel-burning version. With a charging port on the front-left fender, the PHEV is distinct thanks to the “4×e” badge at the rear. Powering the PHEV is a 3.6L V6 engine and an electric motor capable of producing up to 196kW of combined power. The new PHEV is forecasted to be sold in China as an imported model.

Fiat Chrysler announced in June 2018 it would invest 9 billion euros over the next five years for the launch of 30 new electrified models across all regions. In China, the automaker has kicked off its NEV offensive there after the China-made Jeep Commander PHEV hitting the market in last November.
