Huawei’s Octopus autonomous driving cloud service platform put into use
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Huawei, the world's leading provider of ICT infrastructures and smart devices, has made its autonomous driving cloud service platform (Octopus) operational at Xiangjiang New Area, Hunan province, meaning the service was for the first time put into practical use in the world, according to a local media report.
The Octopus was formally launched in last April during the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition. Running on HUAWEI CLOUD, Octopus offers driving data, training and simulation services that can help automakers and other developers more rapidly develop autonomous driving applications, so as to speed up the commercial use of autonomous driving technologies.
The aforementioned three services Octopus provides span the entire life cycle of autonomous driving development by virtue of Huawei’s advantages in cloud + AI, 5G and C-V2X fields. To be specific, the driving data platform processes various data from in-car sensors and replays data from vehicle-mounted cameras. The data collected are used to train driving models. After the new data are fed into, the model training unit accelerates the running of software and hardware, so that the time required for training models is greatly shortened.
Driving models built on petabytes of driving data is the cornerstone for driving simulation. By introducing scenario bank management and evaluation system, Octopus makes sure of vehicle running safely and following traffic rules. Besides, the simulation part ensures that a vehicle’s behaviors can be tracked, evaluated and quickly integrated into ADAS.
According to Huawei, Octopus features more than 20, 000 scenarios that involve six major parts like smart driving, active safety and driving dangers. It is also able to turn the data collected from sensors into simulation scenarios.
