Car and City: Beijing May 2022 passenger vehicle registrations
Beijing (Gasgoo)- In the fifth month of 2022, the capital of China, Beijing, saw an overall downturn in its monthly passenger vehicle registrations compared to the previous month, according to data compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI).
In May, there were a total of 21,095 passenger vehicles registered in the capital, representing a 34.43% drop from the earlier month. In the first five months of this year, the cumulative registration volume of Beijing summed up to 163,720 vehicles.
Among the top ten most registered brands in Beijing in the month were two Chinese brands, BYD and SINOGOLD. Aside from the usual, BYD, who registered 2,523 vehicles in May, ranked second with a 24-unit difference to the winner, Volkswagen. SINOGOLD, an unfamiliar Chinese brand surprisingly made the cut at the third place with 2,454 registrations.
SINOGOLD is a new energy vehicle maker based in Shandong Province while the 2,454 registered vehicles were all fleet-use sedans, the Junxing.
Model-wise, the BYD’s Yuan PLUS registered 1,025 vehicles in May, ranking second among all passenger vehicle models in China. Besides the Yuan PLUS and the Junxing, none of the top ten most registered models saw a volume greater than 500 units. Tesla’s Model Y, the often-favorable model in Beijing, won third place in May, with 473 registrations. Notably, Toyota’s MPV model, the Sienna HEV, also made the top ten list with 301 registrations.
In the fifth month of this year, there were 8,427 new energy vehicles (NEVs) registered in the capital, of which battery-electric vehicles were still the most popular among all power options.
In May, half of the top ten most registered NEV models in Beijing were from BYD. Moreover, only the Model Y and the VW ID.4 CROZZ were not from indigenous China brands.
In May, NIO registered most vehicles in Beijing among the top five NEV startups in China. Meanwhile, Li Auto registered 299 units of the Li ONE in the month, becoming the most registered startup NEV model in Beijing in May.
