China becomes largest patent applicant of C-V2X key technologies
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- As of September, China has accounted for 52% of patent applications in key technologies for C-V2X communication across the world, making it the largest applicant in this field and target country for application, according to the White Paper on Internet of Vehicle (IoV) Intellectual property released recently by the China Institute of Communications. The paper says that a total of 114,587 patents have been filed globally in the IoV field during the period. The United States leads the list with 30% companies and China ranks second with a rate of 25%.

Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) is a vehicular communication system that integrates other more specific types of communication as V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure), V2N (vehicle-to-network), V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle), V2P (vehicle-to-pedestrian), V2D (vehicle-to-device) and V2G (vehicle-to-grid). The Cellular V2X (C-V2X) is a 3GPP standard describing a technology to achieve the V2X requirements.
According to the statistics, the global Top15 applicants for IoV-related patents are mainly auto parts companies and vehicle manufacturers. Among auto makers, Audi ranks fifth, Toyota eighth, Volkswagen ninth and Nissan tenth. However, Chinese automakers are not on the list.

In the Top14 applicants in China, half of them are communication enterprises such as Huawei and ZTE and they outperform, in rankings, the other half vehicle makers as a whole. There are two local automakers, Geely and Chery making the list, while Ford and Hyundai are rated number three and four.
In addition, with regard to the remarkable intelligent driving technology, China represents about half of the total relevant patent applications in the world, and the overall authorization rate is close to 35%.
