The partnership will span a wide range of areas, including battery supply and maintenance, recycling, battery swapping infrastructure, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration, electric vessels, and emerging low-altitude mobility applications.

Under the agreement, CATL will continue supplying high-safety, long-lifecycle battery systems while working with Guangzhou Public Transport Group to build a comprehensive after-sales network. The two sides aim to establish a closed-loop lifecycle system covering everything from battery deployment to retirement and recycling.

They also plan to jointly develop a citywide battery swapping network for taxis in Guangzhou, offering more flexible charging options for drivers. At the same time, both parties are exploring new growth areas such as electrified shipping and low-altitude transport, signaling an expansion beyond traditional ground mobility.

The two companies have already built a substantial track record. Since 2025, CATL has supplied 1,500 electric buses to Guangzhou Public Transport Group, including 424 hydrogen fuel cell buses, and delivered power systems for three electric vessels. Together, they have also constructed six battery swapping stations.

During the 15th National Games, buses equipped with CATL's TIANXING batteries handled more than 300 high-frequency trips per day, completing a total of 4,289 journeys and transporting 75,700 passengers, while cutting carbon emissions by 77 tonnes.

More broadly, since Guangzhou's public transport system transitioned to electrification, overall energy consumption has fallen by 50%, with cumulative carbon emissions reduced by over 1 million tonnes.

As the focus shifts from electrification to a broader energy ecosystem, CATL is positioning itself as a long-term partner to public transport operators across China. By leveraging technology and system-level innovation, the company said it aims to maximize the value of every kilowatt-hour and every battery deployed—supporting greener, more efficient, and more reliable urban mobility.
