The launch signals a strategic shift in the partnership, moving beyond a traditional supplier-customer relationship toward joint technology definition and co-development in key intelligent EV systems, particularly within the vehicle motion domain.
According to the companies, the joint innovation center will combine JAC Group's vehicle engineering and manufacturing capabilities with Huawei Digital Power's expertise in intelligent electrification technologies.
The partnership will focus on next-generation NEV architectures emphasizing higher-voltage systems, greater energy efficiency, and advanced intelligent functions. Joint R&D efforts will target critical technologies including intelligent electric control systems, power module integration, and high-performance electric motors.
Both sides said the initiative is designed to strengthen their collaborative innovation capabilities in intelligent vehicle motion systems while accelerating the development of globally competitive products and technical solutions.
The latest move builds on an expanding partnership between the two companies over the past two years.
In April 2024, JAC Group and Huawei Digital Power signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing covering integrated vehicle, energy, and charging technologies for new energy vehicles. The agreement included collaboration on vehicle platforms, intelligent electric component development and manufacturing, charging infrastructure construction and operation, as well as overseas expansion initiatives.
A year later, in April 2025, the two sides signed an upgraded strategic cooperation agreement in Shanghai. The revised framework placed greater emphasis on jointly defining and developing intelligent electric motion-domain components, expanding charging network operations, and advancing ultra-fast charging technologies for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Industry observers see the establishment of the joint innovation center as a sign that Chinese automakers and technology suppliers are increasingly moving toward deeper integration at the core technology level, rather than relying solely on conventional procurement-based partnerships.
For JAC Group and Huawei Digital Power, the new platform represents a transition from product-level cooperation to joint development of foundational technologies. Both companies said they plan to use the center as a long-term innovation hub to accelerate breakthroughs in intelligent electric vehicle motion-domain technologies and contribute to the broader development of the global smart EV industry.
