Growth was shared by both domestic own brand manufacturers and foreign-Sino joint venture enterprises. Sales of own brand passenger automobiles increased 27.1%. Passenger automobile sales of American and Japanese passenger automobiles increased 14.9% and 9.1%, while those of German and Korean automobiles growing 8.0% and 4.7%.

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai) - The Chinese sedan market as a whole has suffered negative growth over the past few years. The always competitive compact car segment has not been able to escape this market trend. According to statistics from Gasgoo.com (Chinese), a total of 4.93 million compact sedans were sold in the country over the first three quarters of the year. That figure is 7.2% lower than the over 5.3 million sold over the first three quarters of 2014. Compact sedans made up for 35.7% of all passenger automobiles sold over the first three quarters of the year, down 4.7 percent points from a year ago. This decline is due to increasingly diversifying consumer preferences, with many buyers of second vehicles choosing to purchase SUVs.

Summary: Foreign-brand SUV sales in September

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai) - A total of 579,979 SUVs were sold in China during the month of September, according to statistics compiled by Gasgoo.com (Chinese). That figure represents year-on-year growth of 62.8%. While both domestic own brand manufacturers and Sino-foreign joint venture enterprises achieve positive growth in terms of SUV sales, results did vary. While sales of own brand SUVs grew a fully 72.4% year-on-year, those of foreign brand SUVs increased slightly less, growing 53.4% year-on-year. A total of 275,185 foreign brand SUVs were sold in the country over the course of the month. Not only did growth rates fail to meet the market average, the proportion of SUV sales that were of foreign brand models fell to 47.4%, down 3 percentage points from last year.
