Domestic own brand manufacturers are performing especially strongly in the segment. According to statistics from Gasgoo.com (Chinese), a total of 246,313 own brand SUVs were sold in August, up 64.7% from 149,574 own brand SUVs sold last August. The SUV segment accounted for over half of all own brand sales made over the course of the month. 52.5% of SUV sales were of own brand models. The reason behind own brands’ success in the segment has been the introduction of several popular new models.

In line with overall market trends, the luxury automobile segment’s sales growth rates also fell in August. The sedan market in particular performed poorly. According to statistics from Gasgoo.com (Chinese), only 691,039 sedans were sold in July, down 19.5% from the previous year. Sedan sales only make up 57.3% of all Chinese passenger automobiles sold in the country, down 10 percent points from last year.
