
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 16) - Total production and sales numbers for domestic Chinese manufacturers in April totaled 1.89 million vehicles and 1.84 million vehicles, the Guangzhou Daily reported today, citing recently released statistics. When compared to March's number, the two figures represent growth of 8.9 percent and 9.5 percent, respectively.
Automobile enterprises across the country are feverishly setting about on increasing their production capacity. Shanghai VW has announced a slew of new construction projects for automobile factories in China. Meanwhile, Dongfeng Nissan and Dongfeng Yueda Kia have announced the establishment of new factories in Liaoning's Dalian and Jiangsu's Yancheng, respectively. Toyota has also announced its intent to establish new production sites in China.
According to compiled statistics, combined annual production capacity for China's six major manufacturers–FAW Group, SAIC, Dongfeng, Changan, GAC Group and BAIC–looks set to exceed 28 million automobiles by 2015. At the same time, total production capacity for six major own brand manufacturers–Chery, Geely, BYD, Great Wall, Brilliance and JAC–will reach 12 million automobile by the same time.
In a recently released study done by KPMG China, spare production capacity for Chinese manufacturers reached six million automobiles by 2011, around twice the amount of German manufacturers. That number looks set to increase to nine million automobiles by 2016.
