Shanghai, August 2 (Gasgoo.com) Brilliance Auto, BMW's China partner, is now seeking to restructure its commercial vehicle business to grow stronger in the country's auto market, the company's president Qi Yumin said in an interview recently.

Despite having no intention to reorganize its passenger car business, Brilliance has drawn up plans to develop its sedan series and engine products. The company has also launched a number of hybrid vehicles in Dalian city, Northeast China's Liaoning province.

Moreover, Brilliance Auto has earlier carried out several restructuring projects on light trucks and vans with some companies in China's Henan, Hebei and Jiangsu provinces, Qi said.

China is presently gearing up to develop the new energy vehicles, in particular the electric cars. However, it is impossible to put an all-electric car on the road within just a few years.

The domestic automakers should shift their focus on the traditional technology to reduce carbon emissions by 20%, and if the problem is solved, commercialization would be much easier, Qi added.
