BYD Responds to Guidelines for Automotive Overseas Compliance

Edited by Betty From Gasgoo

Gasgoo Munich- BYD has responded to the "Guidelines on Overseas Competitive Behavior and Compliance Construction in the Automotive Industry" issued by three government departments. The automaker said it will use the guidelines as a roadmap to continuously improve its end-to-end overseas compliance management. Key measures include standardizing overseas pricing, upholding fair competition, and protecting consumer rights, alongside a stronger commitment to local regulations, services, and corporate social responsibility.

Overseas markets are becoming increasingly vital for BYD. Data shows the company shipped 189,500 new energy vehicles abroad in August — a 134.5% surge from a year ago. That international expansion is now a key pillar supporting its overall sales growth.

This marks a turning point. As Chinese automakers pivot from merely exporting cars to building local production, sales, and long-term operations, compliance is no longer just a back-office legal task. Pricing systems, dealer management, after-sales service, data security, and even labor practices now directly dictate whether Chinese brands can establish a lasting foothold abroad. The new guidelines send a clear signal: the cutthroat tactics of China’s domestic market must not be simply copied overseas.
