China extends "old car for new" subsidy to Dec. 31

June 14 (Xinhua) China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Sunday it will extend the auto replacement subsidy from May 31 to Dec. 31.

The move aims to accelerate the elimination of high-emissions and polluting vehicles, and stimulate automobile consumption, said the MOC in an online statement.

Auto prices in China rise slightly year on year in May

June 14 (Xinhua) Auto prices in China rose slightly year on year in May, according to sales statistics of 36 major cities released by the price monitoring center under the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) Sunday.

In May, prices of the country's domestically made automobiles edged up 1.04 percent year on year, but dropped 0.24 percent month on month, a statement posted on the NDRC website said.

VW showcases eco-cars as China's EV market grows

June 16 (Xinhua) German automaker Volkswagen is displaying three all-electric cars and one hybrid at its week-long 2010 E-workshop in Shanghai, as the automaker stakes a leadership claim on the electric-vehicle industry.

The "Lavida blue-e-motion," one of the three zero-emission models on display, was fully developed by Shanghai Volkswagen and tailored to the needs of Chinese consumers, a Shanghai Volkswagen spokesperson said.

Volkswagen may build car assembly plant in Taiwan

Shanghai, June 17 (Gasgoo.com) German auto giant Volkswagen AG will likely build an assembly plant in Taiwan to produce cars for the island and export, Taiwan media reported earlier this week, citing the island's top administrator.

Wu Den-yi, Head of Taiwan's Executive Yuan, said on Monday that a senior executive of Volkswagen, the largest European automaker, met with him last week for a second time on the company's plans to set up a plant in Taiwan. Executives from the carmaker will visit Taiwan later this month to pick a site for the plant, he added.

Shanghai GM eyes 15% emission reduction by 2015

Shanghai, June 17 (Gasgoo.com) As a new part of its "Drive to Green" strategy, Shanghai GM, a joint venture between General Motors and SAIC Motor, has announced its plans to reduce its vehicles' fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 15% for the 2011-2015 period while improving performance by 14% at the same time, media reported this week.

To this end, the company is starting to improve and optimize the performance of a traditional internal combustion engine while continuing to roll out hybrid vehicles and promote electric vehicles. It also supports other alternative technologies such as the development of hydrogen powered vehicles.

FAW to launch four own-brand Hongqi models in 2012

Renault-Nissan eyes 10% of China car market by 2013

Shanghai, June 18 (Gasgoo.com) The Renault-Nissan alliance wants to win 10% of the car market in China within a few years, Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of both Renault and Nissan, said in an interview with Paris Match, Reuters reported today.

The alliance's aim is to reach the market share targets by 2013, a Renault spokeswoman said, clarifying Ghosn's comments. The alliance currently has 6% of the Chinese car market. China has become the most profitable market for Nissan Motor, Ghosn said earlier this month.
