Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 31) - Sources from Infiniti China confirmed yesterday that Nissan is temporarily halting exports to China until next January, the Beijing Times reported today. However, Nissan China's Public Relations Department denied receiving any information regarding imported Infiniti, adding that its import operations will continue as before until it receives any further official notice.
Infiniti China officials emphasized that the order to halt exports was entirely temporary, and will only last until dealership inventory levels decrease and the Chinese market returns to normal.
Last week Japanese media reported that Nissan will temporarily halt all automobile exports to China due to sharply decreasing sales. According to various reports, exports will not resume until next January.
Infiniti models constitute the majority of imported Nissan vehicles available in China. Although there are Nissan branded models exported to the country as well, their overall sales volume is relatively small. Following sales disturbances, sales of imported Nissans have come to a near halt, with dealerships reporting that they have a full two months of imported vehicles in their inventories.
A total of 19,000 Infinitis were sold in China in 2011. Nissan's Chinese sales goal for Infiniti vehicles this year is set at 30,000 vehicles.
