Jul. 9 , 2014Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 1) - A total of 15.68 million automobiles have been recalled in China since 2004, the China Industry Journal reported today, quoting a statement made by Lu Chunming, deputy head of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. According to Mr. Lu, there has been a total of 747 recalls reported by 190 different manufacturers during this time period, leading to a direct economic loss of approximately 20 billion RMB ($3.25b). Mr. Lu pointed out that the three major causes of automobile recalls were electronic defects, engine flaws and powertrain system problems.74 recalls were triggered by official government investigations, leading to the recall of over 4.78 million automobiles. There have been 79 recalls issued by 58 manufacturers so far this year, leading to the recall of 936,100 automobiles. While this represents a 23.44 percent in the total number of recalls from last year, the number of vehicles actually recalled has decreased 32.69 percent by comparison.
