Alternative energy vehicle fostering policy has changed focus and caution blind investments

“China’s alternative energy vehicles’ technologies have been leading the world. Alternative energy vehicles will be promoted across the nation during 2016 to 2020.”

Wang Binggang, Office Expert Team leader of National Coordination and Leading Group for clean motors said on China International Industry Fair Fuel-efficient and New Energy Auto Summit, which was held in Shanghai recently, that the nation has made relevant arrangements and adjustments on the developments of alternative energy vehicles from policy level, including the regulation on power battery industry, the increasing entry standards for alternative energy vehicles, and adjustments for current subsidiary policies. All the above measures are aiming to forge a competitive alternative energy vehicle industry.

Wang said that, any new industry should experience four phrases during its developments. Currently, our alternative energy vehicles are in the fostering period, and the following conditions are needed for its fast growth.

One is that the products’ cost performance should be competitive with traditional motors, meaning consumers will also choose alternative energy vehicles without policy subsidiaries, which cannot be achieved in current periods. Two, the infrastructure should be upgraded to solve charging problems, which cannot be achieved currently. Three, we should establish a competitive industrial chain from parts, vehicles to charging equipment. Only when the three basic conditions are achieved can our alternative energy vehicles welcome a fast growth.

Our country has set the year 2020 as a target year for the beginning of the industry’s fast growth to formulate relevant policies. Li Wei, General Engineer of Chana New Energy Automobile said on the forum that, the national policy has changed from foster-oriented to growth-oriented. Growth by itself is truly effective. Wang also suggests that blind investments should be avoided. On one hand, there are several hundred battery enterprises in the global market. On the other hand, the number of current alternative energy vehicle companies is very large, which contains great risks. Therefore, we should take prudent considerations on the alternative energy vehicles’ investments.
