Gasgoo.com (Shanghai October 21) - According to a study carried out by the National Development and Reform Commission's Price Monitoring Center, average automobile prices in 36 different cities decreased in September, the Nanfang Daily reported earlier this week. Retail prices of both Chinese made and imported vehicles fell on average. This the fifth consecutive month that retail prices decreased.
Average prices for passenger automobiles in September decreased 0.1 percent from the previous month and 1.53 percent from the previous year. The sedan market was the only segment in which retail prices were more expensive. Average prices of vehicles in all other segments were a few percent points lower than a year ago, with SUVs 2.6 percent cheaper and microvans 2.45 percent less expensive. Monthly prices of commercial vehicles also decreased 0.1 percent on average from August, and were 0.84 percent lower than last September.
Average prices of imported vehicles were 0.04 percent lower than the previous month and 3.96 than last September. Among the various segments, respective average prices of foreign-made SUVs and sedans were 3.39 percent and 4.54 percent cheaper than they were a year ago.
The NDRC's Price Monitoring Center anticipates average prices to decline further over the next few months.
