BelTA (Minsk) - Assembled from Chinese knockdown kits in Belarus, the cars will be competitive not only on the home market but also on the Customs Union market. The information was released by Belarusian Industry Minister Mr Dmitry Katerinich on 31 January, BelTA has learned.

The official said that the Chinese company Geely, which is involved in the Belarusian-Chinese project to assemble cars in Belarus, sells its cars on the Russian market, too. Now after Russia has made the decision to introduce a car utilization fee, the price for importing new and second-hand automobiles has increased on the Customs Union market. This is why the Belarusian-Chinese project to assemble cars allows offering a competitive car to the Customs Union market. Dmitry Katerinich explained that utilization fees do not have to be paid to sell Belarus-assembled products. It is one of the advantages of the project. Apart from that, customs duties will not be paid for importing the automobile parts used to make these cars. "This is why the car will be competitive not only on our market but also in Russia and Kazakhstan," stressed the Minister.

The first Belarus-assembled Chinese cars will be sold via Industry Ministry outlets. An enterprise located in Kozlova Street, Minsk has been chosen for it. According to the official, many orders for the new products have been received already. The Belarusian-Chinese car has met a great interest from domestic manufacturers. Speaking about the price, Dmitry Katerinich said that a medium-class sedan will cost approximately $12,990.
