Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 24) - Shanghai GM will begin selling the new Buick Encore compact SUV in China this November, the Beijing Times reported today. Following the 2012 model year Regal and LaCrosse, the Encore will be Shanghai GM's newest model.
At a special press event held last week, Shanghai GM Buick brand manager Liu Qi confirmed that the Buick Encore (pictured) will be making its Chinese market debut in the fourth quarter of the year. The 1.4 L turbocharged Encore made its first appearance at last month's Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. It is expected to carry a price tag of over 200,000 yuan ($31,631), and will compete directly with Dongfeng Nissan's Qashqai.
Shanghai GM's sales target for this year is set at 1.3 million vehicles, with the JV's goal being to once again be the country's top selling passenger vehicle manufacturer. The Buick brand is expected to constitute a significant portion of its total sales.
