Established in 1999, the IATF is the authoritative body for automotive quality management worldwide. Its founding members include five national automotive associations—the U.S. Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), Italy's ANFIA, France's FIEV, the U.K.'s SMMT, and Germany's VDA—alongside major automakers such as Volkswagen and General Motors. The IATF's certification standards have created a unified quality management language for the global automotive supply chain and are widely recognized as a critical quality benchmark for entering the international market. BYD was nominated by the AIAG and approved by a full membership vote to join the organization.

BYD's admission marks a significant step forward for China's auto industry on the international standards stage, signaling that the technical and quality management capabilities of Chinese automakers are gaining global recognition. Historically dominated by European and American automakers, the IATF will now benefit from the inclusion of BYD, which helps integrate practical experience from China's new energy vehicle sector into the global standard system. Leveraging its accumulated expertise in electrification and intelligent technologies, BYD plans to deepen collaboration with IATF members and the International Automotive Oversight Bureau (IAOB). The goal is to help the global automotive standards system navigate the challenges of industrial transformation and enhance its capacity for continuous evolution.

Zhao Jianping, BYD's Vice President and Chief Quality Officer, said becoming a core member of the IATF affirms the company's philosophy that "technology is king and innovation is fundamental." He described it as a milestone marking the shift of China's automotive industry from "accumulating volume" to "leading with technology." BYD is eager to contribute its quality management experience in new energy vehicles to the optimization of global standards, working with all parties to upgrade international automotive rules and offer "Chinese wisdom" for the industry's green transition.
