Gasgoo Munich-On October 23, Dr. Tang Baojun, Director of Quality at Calterah Semiconductor, delivered a keynote speech at the 14th Automotive and Environment Innovation Forum in Shanghai. Titled "Thoughts and Insights on Building High-Quality Automotive-Grade Chips at Calterah — From Compliance to Trust," his presentation shared insights into high-quality automotive-grade chip development.

Tang noted that going global reshapes the quality boundaries for automotive chips, with shifting application scenarios and regulatory liabilities acting as the biggest variables. Take service life: smart driving and electrification now demand a vehicle lifespan of 20 to 25 years. Relying on a single standard or number for validation is no longer enough; instead, reliability boundaries must be defined through failure mechanisms and engineering data. As autonomous driving advances from L2 to L3, liability shifts toward the system, leaving less room for error. Quality systems need a synchronous upgrade, backed by solid data to prove it.
Tang argued that reliability capabilities should progress from compliance to application, then to mechanism understanding, and finally to predictive verification. The key to outperforming standards lies in deep insight into failure mechanisms. Consistency, he added, is the core of winning trust. To that end, Calterah is building a collaborative quality ecosystem that brings together automakers, Tier 1 suppliers, chipmakers, and the broader supply chain.
Calterah has partnered with over 35 automakers, powering more than 300 vehicle models with cumulative shipments exceeding 40 million chips. The company remains committed to its philosophy of “quality first, technology for good.”
