Shanghai, March 17 (Gasgoo.com) China's quality regulatory body is planning to investigate into car models of Toyota Motor that have been recalled outside the country, said Zhang Gang, chief engineer of the government agency, SinoCast reported today. These Toyota models have been imported or locally made for Chinese buyers.
In addition to supervising the recall of the RAV4 model in China, the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine (AQSIQ) will also arrange for experts to launch research and evaluation on the feedback of Chinese owners of Toyota's car models recalled in other markets.
Once quality problems are found, the government regulator will take actions according to laws and regulations. Since Toyota launched its massive recall worldwide, the AQSIQ has called in top executives of Toyota's Chinese operations for five times to find out related information, Zhang said.
While apologizing to Chinese customers earlier this month in Beijing, Toyota President Akio Toyoda said that the company would only recall RAV4 in China, since other car models sold in China use different components. Toyota has recalled eight car models globally, including Corolla and Camry.
Toyota started recalling 75,552 locally made RAV4 vehicles to replace the faulty accelerator pedals for free, using auto parts from the U.S. CTS Corporation. Previously, an industry official warned that other Toyota car models sold in China might have similar safety risks.
