Gasgoo (Shanghai, October 24)— 22 out of 89 Chinese automakers have failed to meet standard of fuel consumption, according to data from China’s government.
Daqing Volvo Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Kowloon Motor Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd. turn out to be three automakers producing vehicles with highest actual fuel consumption in China.
Actual fuel consumption of Daqing Volvo was 11.8L/100km in 2015, higher than the standard of 10.6L/km. XC Classic has been the only one mode produced in the company. As large SUV, XC Classic has been equipped with engines with displacement of 2.5T, leading to high fuel consumption.
And Kowloon Motor mainly produce luxury commercial vehicles and bus of large and middle size, which can explain its high fuel consumption. Production of SUV models has also led to high fuel consumption of BAIC.
Great demand of SUV in China has made it difficult for implementation of the governmental policy of energy conservation and emission reduction, as analysts point out.
However, implementation of the governmental policy of energy conservation and emission reduction is indispensable for improving air quality. Encouraging development of SUV and commercial vehicles has led to fuel consumption of 7.34, higher than that of 7.12 before, which may do no good for health. Unlike SUV, alternative energy vehicles, development of which may improve air quality, has met lots of challenges.
To balance development and environmental protection has remains a great challenge for the government and automakers.
