After the driver pulled over, the vehicle became immobile and was towed to a service center. Li Auto issued a technical clarification: inspections confirmed no fire occurred; the visible smoke was actually oil vapor from lubricant leaking out of a damaged rear reducer housing and hitting hot components. The company classified it as a rare mechanical fault from long-term use, not driver error. The faulty part has been returned to the factory for analysis. Fast Tech: A draft revision of the Road Traffic Safety Law was submitted for initial review on Aug. 25. The proposal includes a dedicated chapter on autonomous vehicles, legally defining the boundary between self-driving and driver-assist functions for the first time. It establishes clear liability rules: if a traffic violation occurs while autonomous driving is active, the vehicle's manufacturer or importer is responsible. If the system is inactive, or for cars with only assisted driving, the user or driver bears liability under existing rules. The 170-article draft also outlines market access conditions, violation processing protocols, and specialized insurance. By addressing issues like drunk and distracted driving, the legislation aims to remove legal barriers to the mass commercialization of high-level autonomous driving.
