Shanghai, March 3 (Gasgoo.com) General Motors said yesterday that it does not expect its recall decision in North America to affect its business in China, one of its most important overseas markets, Reuters reported.

Earlier this week, GM decided to recall 1.3 million compact cars in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to fix a power steering problem. There have been 14 crashes and one injury reports related to the problem.

"I can tell you in a responsible way there's no impact on the Chinese market," Chen Shi, vice president of GM China, said in Beijing, adding that GM China has been in contact with relevant government agencies over this matter, including China's quality regulator.

Chen said that this year GM is aiming to increase its China market share, which stood at 13.7% last year, by selling more than 2 million vehicles, up from 1.83 million sold in 2009.

GM and its China joint ventures sold 219,192 vehicles in January this year, a year-on-year growth of 97%, and sold 174,306 units in February, up 51% from a year earlier.
