Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Guangdong Province, a coastal province in South China, expects the annual revenue of its automobile manufacturing industry to surpass 1.1 trillion yuan ($169.617 billion) by 2025, according to a document Guangdong provincial government released on Aug. 9.
The document, named the 14th Five-Year Plan for the High-quality Development of Guangdong Province's Manufacturing Industry, includes the efforts the province is going to make to build a world-class automotive industrial cluster. To strengthen the R&D and application of traditional fuel-powered vehicle technologies, Guangdong will provide considerable supports for the manufacturing of passenger vehicles (PVs), commercial vehicles (CVs), and special vehicles, pivoting on lightweight and energy-saving technologies and eying higher proportion of high-end models. Meanwhile, it will keep working on improving the supportive capability of auto parts, including engines, transmission, braking system, and automotive electronics.

To boost the development of local new energy vehicle (NEV) industry, Guangdong will endeavor to enhance its R&D ability in hybrid power systems, all-electric vehicles, and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Moreover, major efforts will be made to enhance the R&D of electric motors, batteries, and electric control systems, and speed up the construction of NEV-related supporting infrastructures.
Under the Plan, Guangdong's authority will support the development of sensing, controlling, execution, and infortainment systems used in intelligent-connected vehicles (ICVs). Additionally, it will vigorously promote the construction of the facilities for car inspection and testing, and build the pilot zones for demonstration of ICVs.
