South Korean car maker Kia has a first look at the concept vehicle, called KV 7, is bringing to the Detroit Auto Show in early January.
The box-shaped crossover has a high ceiling for a more spacious interior and rear seats that swivel 360 degrees. While the front doors open normally, the rear passenger doors open gull-wing style lifting up and out.
Based on a sketch released by Kia, the KV7 seems an alternative to minivans. The two-box design is reminiscent of cars like the Ford Flex. In addition to a conventional front-hinged door, the sketch shows a hinged roof ¡°gull wing¡± door to a large opening in the passenger compartment creating. Seats are mounted on pedestals, some with the ability to run.
"This is a concept car, and top-opening rear doors will not appear on mass-produced cars in the near future," the automaker said. "But other features and exterior design are very similar to a new crossover utility vehicle that will be launched in September next year."
