After the failure of the import substitution policies of years long, Colombian government came to open its door to overseas carmakers and gave the country a chance of gaining advanced technology, assemble lines and more jobs.
General Motors is no. one in Colombian market owning to its advantage over other competitors on sourcing. The company can bring the same car model produced locally and imported simultaneously due to its restricted production capacity in the local branch. The company occupies nearly 40% the market.
Renault gets the second position with nearly 25% of the market and has assembly plant in Colombia.
Hyundai, the most unwelcome guy in the late 1990s, imports products from Korea to Colombia and catches about 16.7% of the market.
Cars from China grow very quickly, but the share is still small.
