Shanghai, June 8 (Gasgoo.com) Daimler AG said yesterday that sales of its luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz last month more than doubled from a year earlier in the Chinese market, leading the company's global performances, media reported.
In May, Mercedes-Benz sales in China (including Hong Kong) surged 121% from a year earlier to 11,500 units, which helped the company sell nearly 66% more cars across the Asia-Pacific. China sales in the first five months came to nearly 46,500 units, up 113%.
Daimler said that Mercedes-Benz global sales in May increased to 101,400 vehicles from 86,300 a year earlier. Sales in the U.S. grew 22.6% to 18,500 units.
The German auto giant aims to sell at least 100,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in China this year, up from the 67,000 in 2009. Mercedes-Benz sales in the Chinese market may increase to 300,000 vehicles a year by 2015.
Mercedes-Benz sales in China are mainly boosted by the E-Class sedan, and the locally produced long-wheelbase E-Class helps increase the brand's market share in China's luxury car market now dominated by Audi.
