Shanghai December 6 (Gasgoo.com) The new Volkswagen Sharan MPV, spotted out taking road tests in China recently, will be imported to the country as soon as the end of this year, with a price tag of around 320,000 yuan ($48,000), and will be locally produced two years later, autohome.com reported Monday.
The new Sharan will be Volkswagen's second MPV model, after the Turan, to enter the Chinese market, which a group of foreign MPVs, such as the Buick GL8, Mazda 8 and Hyundai H-1, has swarmed into this year.

The new Sharan gets a bigger size than the Turan, and features Volkswagen's 1.4 liter TSI engine with 150 and 200 horsepower and the 1.8 liter TSI engine, as well as the 7-speed DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Sharan is more spacious inside. It has a wheelbase of 2919mm, and measures 4854mm in length, 1904mm in width and 1904mm in height. The new car also inherits the Volkswagen family 'face' with air intake grille, headlamps and other features similar to the six generation Golf. To bring convenience to the rear-row passengers, Volkswagen has provided the new Sharan with sliding rear doors.
