New VW Golf R to hit Chinese market in third quarter 2011

Shanghai January 6 (Gasgoo.com) The long-expected Volkswagen Golf R will hit the Chinese market in the third quarter of this year, the Beijing Times said Thursday, citing an insider at Volkswagen Group.

Featuring Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, the new Golf R will be sold as an import model. The compact car has a 2.0L TSI engine rated at 270 PS (199 kW; 266 hp), and a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The German auto giant will launch more high-performance models in China this year, the person in charge at the Group said, adding that the Scirocco R, a Golf-based three-door coupe, will be introduced to the domestic market next year to fight alongside the new Golf R in the mid-to-high vehicle segment.

Volkswagen Passat CC R-Line

Aside from the R series models, the launch of the Volkswagen Passat CC R-Line has also been put on the agenda. It will be equipped with the full aerodynamic package, the Times said.
