Nissan North America announced Thursday that they are recalling over 600,000 vehicles, mostly in the United States, to resolve steering and battery cables issues.
The Nissan Frontier and Xterra had issues with its lower steering column joint and shaft, with an estimated 303,000 and 283,000 to be fixed, respectively. In addition, the positivebattery cable terminal affected of 18,500 Nissan Sentra sedans.
About 515,000 automobiles are expected to be fixed in the United States alone. The remaining automobiles will be worked on in Canada, Latin America, and African countries.
The lower steering issues with the SUVs developed corrosion, which limited the amount of movement in the joints. The Sentra’s issue with the battery cable made it difficult for some car owners to start their vehicles, and also caused the car to stall at low speeds.
Nissan will begin notifying any Frontier, Xterra, and Sentra owners in December, when replacement parts are expected to be available.
