Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 20) - The Ministry of Finance has officially announced the newest batch of vehicles to be totally or partially exempt from the Vehicle and Vessel Tax Law, the Guangzhou Daily reported earlier this week. The list, which was approved by the Ministry of Finance, State Administration of Taxation and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, marks the first time so-called 'energy efficient' vehicles with engine displacements of over 1.6 L are exempt from the tax.

The list included several midsize and fullsize cars, including the 1.8 L Toyota Corolla, 1.9 L VW Jetta, 1.9 L VW Passat, 2.0 L Ford Focus, 2.0 L Audi A6 and 2.7 L Audi A6. Their inclusion marks an important phase in Chinese automobile tax policy, which has previously only ever granted subsidies for vehicles with engines 1.6 L or smaller.

Meanwhile, the list also included ten new energy vehicles, all of which were pure electrics. Three were passenger sedans, while the remaining seven were commercial vehicles.
