Opel, the former German unit of General Motors, increased its share of the European car market by 70 basis points to 7.2 percent in July helped by strong demand in France, Opel said in a statement on Friday.
Registrations of new Opels amounted to 104,531 vehicles last month. The brand performed better than competitors in markets like Germany, Spain and Belgium. Sales rose by nearly 42 percent alone in France.
For the first seven months, Opel's share of the European market stood at 7.0 percent helped by orders.
GM is in talks with Magna and RHJ over the sale of a majority stake in Opel.
