Dow Jones Newswires (Vélizy-Villacoublay, France) - Car maker PSA Peugeot-Citroën (UG.FR) plans to hire 4,000 new employees in 2011, the head of the company's human relations Claude Brunet said Monday.
Peugeot-Citroën, Europe's second-largest car manufacturer after Germany's Volkswagen, has a workforce of 199,000 worldwide, of which half is in France, and half are blue-collar workers. The company hired 2,700 employees in 2010.
At the beginning of this year, Peugeot-Citroën was projecting a slightly lower European automobile market in 2011 compared to 2010, but earlier this month said it has a slightly more optimistic view. The company derives the bulk of its sales and profits in Europe.
