Gasgoo.com (Shanghai DEC 4)  According to Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau in China, SAIC GM will invest 1.168 billion yuan to upgrade Delta platform of Buick, which is a technological transformation project aiming to increase production of new models and molds and improve processing equipments of each workshop. But neither extra land nor construction area will be needed.

In virtue of this project, SAIC GM will be able to produce EREV cars, named D2JBI, in its Jin Qiao factory in Shanghai while production capacity of the factory will remain unchanged.

Delta platform is the latest platform of global strategy for compact models of SAIC GM where Chevrolet, Buick and Opel launch their new models. The first alternative energy model of Buick dubbed D2JBI will also be launched on this platform. It’s said that D2JBI is EREV car. Based on the project, many models built on this platform will develop their alternative energy models which will also be put into production there.

Among three major brands of SAIC GM, only Chevrolet has launched one model of electric vehicle named SPRINGO. Neither Cadillac nor Buick has produced any alternative energy vehicle.

Based on the strategy dubbed "Drive to Green” of SAIC GM, all of these three major brands have to launch a new model of alternative energy vehicle per year respectively on their own platforms. In this way, a total of 10 alternative energy models will have been launched by SAIC GM by 2020. With CT6PHEV of Cadillac, SPRINGO of Chevrolet which was built based on Bolt as well as D2JBI of Buick launched, alternative energy products of SAIC GM will increase to three in the short term.

2016 will witness intense production of alternative energy vehicles by each automaker. In order to take up China's market of alternative energy vehicles which is emerging but not mature, SAIC GM has built an army of alternative energy vehicles comprising of CT6PHEV of Cadillac, SPRINGO of Chevrolet and D2JBI of Buick which will be brought to sales next year.
