Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 28) - Reports concerning a recent personnel change at SAIC have been appearing across the Chinese automotive media. The reports come as SAIC has seen its sales fall in the first half of 2015. A total of 68,000 SAIC own brand sedans were sold over the first half of 2015, down from the previous year.

In response to these claims, Zheng Rongqing, head of SAIC’s PR department, stated that he is confident that sales will recover over the latter half of the year as the MG GS gains more exposure and the new Roewe 360 is finally released.

SAIC Group CEO Chen Hong previously stated that the manufacturer’s target has been revised to ensure annual sales of 190,000 vehicles, while aiming to achieve an additional 10,000 automobile sales on top of that. SAIC has made this revision due to the lagging performance of the Chinese automotive market this year.

According to sales statistics, a total of 11.85 million automobiles were sold in the country over the first half of the year. The figure is only a slight 1.43% more than the amount sold a year ago.

SAIC aims to sell one million vehicles by 2020, with 150,000 of those sales being of new energy vehicles. In order to achieve this goal, SAIC must find a way to improve its brand competitiveness and develop its sales network in the country.
