Shanghai, July 29 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM, a joint venture in China between General Motors Corp and SAIC Motor Corp, is now gearing up to import a couple of Chevrolet SUVs to the domestic market, media reported today.

GM and its Chinese partner SAIC Motor will put the Captiva compact SUV into local production in the first quarter of this year, import the all-new Chevrolet Spark SUV and put it on sale in October, and launch the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6L to the market in the year also, said Ren Jianqiong, Shanghai GM Executive Vice Director of Marketing Department of Marketing.

The Captiva was previously sold as an imported model in the Chinese market, after locally produced, it should become more competitive. The Spark, equipped with a 1.0L engine, will be sold in less than 100,000 yuan ($14,800), while the price of the new Cruze will be similar to the Buick Yinglang, Ren added.

The joint venture will also introduce other mid- and high-end Chevrolet models to China in the next two years. Shang GM sales rose 18.9% in June from a year earlier to 71,782 units.
