Shanghai, July 27 (Gasgoo.com) This week, Shanghai will submit its plan to subsidize alternative-energy vehicles, the Shanghai Securities News reported today. The subsidy plan may be approved by the central government's regulators and implemented as early as September.
The Shanghai city government has met with related companies and institutes to finalize the city's plan to subsidize individual buyers of clean vehicles. This plan is slightly different from those of other cities such as Shenzhen and Changchun in that Shanghai has added subsidy standards for the after-sales service and rental of cars and batteries.
To meet the possibly growing demand for recharging the green vehicles, the local government will have about 400 charging stations built this year across the city. These charging facilities will be located in the residential areas, near the public transportation terminals and will depend on the national electric grid resources, the Shanghai municipal new-energy vehicle promotion office said.
In addition to the central government's subsidy of up to 60,000 yuan ($885), Shanghai is likely to provide another 40,000 to 60,000 yuan for the city's individual buyer of each new energy vehicle, an amount between those of Changchun and Shenzhen, and the double subsidies of as much as 120,000 yuan would account for about 50% of the green vehicle's retail price.
On June 1, the Chinese government announced a pilot program to subsidize private buyers of electric, hybrid and other new-energy cars in five cities (Shanghai, Changchun, Shenzhen, Hangzhou and Hefei), and also issued a policy to promote energy-saving cars.
