According to Gasgoo Automotive Research Institute, BYD's passenger vehicle exports maintained strong momentum in the first five months of 2026, with a clear regional pattern: Latin America remained the key growth engine, Europe continued to expand, while the Asia-Pacific and Middle East markets recorded steady gains. Brazil retained its position as BYD's largest overseas market, with several European countries also ranking among its top export destinations. Meanwhile, supported by its dual powertrain strategy—battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs)—BYD has tailored its product mix to local market demand, further strengthening its global footprint.

According to the Gasgoo Automotive Research Institute's export database, BYD's overseas passenger vehicle exports from January to May 2026 showed a clear pattern of "Brazil taking a commanding lead, diversified expansion across Europe, and parallel growth of BEV and PHEV models."
Brazil ranked first with 186,921 units, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) contributing 93,764 units and 93,157 units, respectively. The nearly balanced sales mix made Brazil BYD's largest overseas market, highlighting the strong adaptability of its dual-powertrain strategy. Notably, as Brazil adjusts its vehicle import policies, Chinese automakers may accelerate the shift from complete vehicle exports to KD assembly and localized production models in the future.
Europe also played a key role in BYD's overseas expansion, with the UK, Belgium, Germany, and Spain all ranking among its top 10 export destinations. Among them, the UK and Belgium showed a higher share of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), Germany maintained a relatively balanced mix of BEVs and PHEVs, while Spain recorded an almost even split between the two powertrain types. This reflects BYD's flexible product strategies tailored to different market demands and its continued deepening presence in Europe.
Markets in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions showed more differentiated characteristics. Australia ranked second with 39,456 units, driven primarily by BEV exports. Thailand and Hong Kong SAR were also dominated by BEV models, while exports to the UAE and the Philippines were mainly supported by PHEV models. Overall, BYD is leveraging its dual-powertrain strategy to adapt products to diverse regional needs, further strengthening its global market presence.
