Toyota recalls 94,000 Siennas

Toyota Motor Corp. announced a voluntary recall of 94,000 of its Sienna minivans in the U.S. because of a problem with a bracket holding the brake-light switch.

The Japanese auto maker said the switch bracket on 2011 Siennas may become deformed by drivers' feet because of its proximity to the parking brake pedal when it is fully depressed. Depending on how deformed the bracket becomes, in some situations brake lights may stay on or, in cases of significant deformation, the brakes could become partially engaged, Toyota said.

Owners of vehicles involved in the recall will receive a notification of the recall starting mid-January, along with instructions for what to do if they experience the problems. In late February, when replacement parts are available, owners will receive a second notice and be asked to make an appointment with a Toyota dealer to fix the problem at no charge.

The world's biggest auto maker by volume, Toyota has been experiencing a series of recall, including a recall of more than 8.5 million vehicles earlier this year for sudden-acceleration concerns that damaged its reputation for quality.
