XPENG GX Debuts Industry-First EIS Battery Safety Chip

Gasgoo Munich-XPENG has officially unveiled the GX, featuring the industry's first EIS battery safety chip,. The chip provides "ECG-like" real-time monitoring of the battery, doubling the lead time for detecting cell defects.

Building on traditional BMS voltage, current, and temperature checks, the GX employs a full-stack, self-developed impedance spectrum detection algorithm powered by EIS technology. This allows for precise identification of dynamic micro-changes within cells, significantly enhancing safety. The chip also monitors charging and discharging safety, boosts low-temperature charging speeds by 27%, and improves state-of-charge (SOC) accuracy by 50%.

Physically, the GX is built with a triple-layer battery protection structure. This includes four layers of shielding on the battery bottom, high-strength guard beams, and comprehensive four-layer thermal runaway protection. Together, these features provide defense against intrusion, high temperatures, and fire or explosion risks.

As XPENG's flagship, the GX also debuts a new range-extender system designed to alleviate range anxiety on long journeys. It pairs a 63.3 kWh 5C lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a 60-liter fuel tank. Combined with its low-energy design, the setup caters to everything from daily commutes to cross-city road trips.

On the performance front, the GX utilizes a 4S-class dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, with single-motor torque hitting 465 N·m. Crucially, the vehicle maintains robust power output even when the battery is depleted—a common weak point for traditional range-extended vehicles. This ensures consistent performance throughout the drive.
