Hello and welcome to Gasgoo Daily, your quick update on the latest developments in China's automotive industry. Today, we cover BYD's latest milestone in Thailand, FORVIA HELLA's new China-developed headlamp controller, and GAC's official entry into Morocco.
1. BYD's Cumulative NEV Deliveries in Thailand Surpass 130,000 Units
·On July 12, 2026, BYD Auto (Thailand) announced that its cumulative new energy vehicle deliveries in Thailand had exceeded 130,000 units.
·The 130,000th vehicle delivered was a BYD SEALION 5 DM-i.
·The milestone coincided with the second anniversary of BYD's Thailand plant, located in the WHA Industrial Estate in Rayong Province.
·The facility is BYD's first overseas passenger vehicle production base and has a designed annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles.
·It currently produces five models locally: the BYD DOLPHIN, BYD ATTO 3, BYD SEAL 5 DM-i, BYD SEALION 5 DM-i, and BYD SEALION 6 DM-i.
·Over the past two years, the plant has created more than 5,000 jobs. Thai employees account for approximately 93% of its workforce, while locally sourced components represent 50% of procurement.
·BYD also announced the presale price of the Standard version of the BYD SEALION 5 DM-i, further expanding its DM-i product lineup in Thailand.
2. FORVIA HELLA Begins Mass Production of First Headlamp ECU Using Fully China-Sourced Chips
·FORVIA HELLA confirmed on July 14, 2026, that its first headlamp electronic control unit (ECU), built entirely with domestically sourced semiconductor chips had entered mass production in China.
·The controller is already being installed in several high-volume models from leading Chinese automakers, although the company did not disclose the specific vehicles.
·The ECU was developed and industrialized by FORVIA HELLA's China-based team, with chip selection, validation, and quality assessment completed entirely within the domestic supply chain.
·Its printed circuit board is approximately the size of a bank card, while the complete unit weighs 87 grams and requires around 30% less installation space than conventional solutions.
·Using a symmetrical left-right architecture, one ECU can manage more than ten lighting functions, including low beams, high beams, and turn indicators.
·Its modular software architecture allows the same hardware platform to support different vehicle lighting systems through firmware parameter adjustments, without redesigning the hardware or rewriting the underlying software.
3. GAC Group Officially Enters the Morocco Market
·On July 8, 2026, GAC Group and Moroccan automotive group M-AUTOMOTIVE held a brand launch event in Casablanca, marking GAC's official entry into Morocco.
·The companies plan to combine GAC's vehicle technologies and global operating experience with M-AUTOMOTIVE's local sales, after-sales, and market resources.
·GAC's initial Moroccan lineup consists of three SUVs covering gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
o EMZOOM: A compact urban SUV powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. It comes standard with Level 2 driver-assistance functions.
o EMKOO HEV: A hybrid SUV equipped with a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine and a dual-motor, multi-speed dedicated hybrid transmission.
o S7 PHEV: A flagship plug-in hybrid SUV combining a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor. It offers approximately 150 kilometers of range on battery power alone and more than 1,000 kilometers of combined range.
·M-AUTOMOTIVE has established GAC's first sales outlets in Casablanca and Tangier, providing vehicle display, test-drive, and after-sales services.
In the medium to long term, the partners plan to introduce additional models tailored to the Moroccan and wider North African markets.
