BYD Tang 5-seat version hits market in Guangzhou with fuel-burning, DM variants

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The 5-seat BYD Tang formally hit the market on the first day of the Auto Guangzhou 2018. Adopting a 2-3 seat layout, the new model still has a wheelbase of 2,820mm.

The new BYD Tang model offers 6 variants in total—4 fuel-burning variants with prices ranging from RMB129,900 to RMB154,900 and 2 DM (PHEV) variants priced between RMB 254,900 and RMB274,900 after the subsidy incentive is given.

The BYD Tang 5-seat version features an innovative exterior design that is rather different from the existing BYD Tang and S7. The “Dragon Face” front face coupled with a massive intake grille and sculptural headlights are pretty impressive. Using LED light source, the headlights integrates the steering lamp and the daytime running lamp.

As for the side profile, there are some nuances between the fuel-burning and the DM version. The latter uniquely features sooty B, C and D pillars with a floating sunroof.

Inside the vehicle, the BYD Tang 5-seat model retains a spiffy layout as well. A 12.8-inch rotatable LCD (liquid crystal display) at the center console is really eye-catching. Besides, the new model also embodies the futuristic sense by carrying such amenities as a 12.3-inch full liquid crystal instrument panel and a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel with few physical buttons.

With regard to powertrain details, the fuel-burning version is fitted with a 2.0L turbocharged engine that pumps out 205hp and 320 N·m, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The DM version is possessed with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 2.0L turbocharged engine and two electric motors at the front and rear axles, which offers a combined output of over 500hp and makes the vehicle sprint from 0-100km/h within as little as 4.3 seconds.
