Chery to launch A5 1.5L model at 60,000 yuan

Shanghai, August 29 (Gasgoo.com) Following the launch of the Chery A3 model next month, Chery Auto will also put the 1.5L model of its Chery A5 onto the market at a price of 60,000 yuan ($8,770) or so, said xinhuanet.com today, citing sources from the company.

The long-awaited Chery A3 model is scheduled to go on sale on September 23, and the Chery Cowin (Qiyun) 1.5L model was launched in early July as an addition to the Chery Cowin series. After the Chery A3 hits the market next month, the Chery A5 1.5L model will also go to the market to enrich the Chery A5 lineup.

The current Chery A5 series has the 1.6L, 1.8L, 2.0L models, all equipped with Chery's self-developed ACTECO engines and priced at 69,800-93,800 yuan, but the forthcoming Chery A5 1.5L model will carry the same SQR477F engine as the Chery Cowin 1.5L model, with its selling price at about 60,000 yuan. The Chery A3 series also has the 1.8L and 2.0L models.

The 1.5L Chery A5, measuring 4,552mm x 1,750mm x 1,483mm, features the globally fashionable "skyline" design to highlight the impressive streamline and full-body of the car. Spacious, fashionable and comfortable, it is expected to be well received by consumers in the mid- to high-end sedan market.

Chery Auto is also set to mass-produce its A5 hybrid vehicles after Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games that have used the hybrid car, among others, to ferry athletes and spectators. The Chery A5 hybrid will sell for 100,000-200,000 yuan, higher-priced than the basic A5 series.
