Chinese auto manufacturer Chery has tentative plans to establish a factory of its own in Turkey after completing market research in the country.

Chery CEO Yin Tongyao recently visited the cities of Adapazarı, Bursa and Karaman to participate in investment research. Tongyao told the Anatolia news agency that the company will wait for feasibility studies under way by the Turkish Mermerler Group, Chery's current distributor in Turkey, and then come to a decision on where to establish the factory.

Chery plans to produce two of its models in Turkey through cooperation with the Mermerler Group. "We entered the Turkish market to become a significant trademark here," Tongyao said.

Murat Mermer, deputy head of the Mermerler Group, also noted that Chery attaches great importance to Turkey and that the company was willing to remain in Turkey despite the recent contraction in the auto manufacturing industry. He emphasized that Mermerler has supported and encouraged Chery in its efforts because Turkey will also benefit from such investments.
