Shanghai, September 17 (Gasgoo.com) Chery, one of the top-selling Chinese auto brands, has increased its overseas sales to 40% of its total sales this year and tries to achieve half of its total sales abroad by 2010 , Beijing Business News reported yesterday.

The talks between Chery and Russia's authorities have approved Chery's assembled cars to enter the Russian market by the end of this year, Chery Auto spokesman Jin Yibo said.

Chery Auto plans to establish 14 plants abroad and export 400,000 vehicles. Data show that Chery has sold over 80,000 vehicles outside China in the first half of this year and the sales are expected to continue surging.

Chery has put emphasis on exports from 2004 and sold its first batch of 10,000 vehicles in the foreign markets in 2005. Since 2008, the automaker has built overseas plants in Turkey, Argentina, and Uruguay successively.

As for joint venture talks, Jin Yibo claimed Chery has its own choice. The independent automaker has reached agreements with Quantum LLC, Chrysler and Fiat, which are different from the traditional joint venture or cooperation as Chery may take the lead in the cooperation.

We have reason to believe that Chery Auto, always pursuing the utmost independent development, is exploring more global markets as well as sticking to its independent brand.
