Great Wall Motor to export pickups to Australia
Shanghai, October 28 (Gasgoo.com) After securing a $440-mln order for exporting 4,500 Deer pickups to Cuba, China's automaker Great Wall Motor recently announced that it will export its Sailor and Wingle pickups to Australia, said xinhuanet.com today.
As an important market that sells 1 million vehicles every year, Australia has strict standards for auto imports. Great Wall is well prepared for these standards and its vehicles have met Australia's strict ADR (Australian Design Rule) requirements. In eco-friendliness and safety, the Sailor and Wingle pickup models for export to Australia have been upgraded on the versions sold in the domestic market to comply with the Euro III+OBD standard.
Great Wall said its Sailor pickup for sale abroad is also higher priced than that sold at home. The exported version of the Sailor pickup will sell in Australia for an equivalent of 120,000 yuan ($17,560), and the export of this pickup model to the Australian market will reach 3,000 units annually.
An executive from Great Wall revealed that the company will also export its SUVs and sedans to Australia for sale. The Great Wall Hover SUV is going though related certification in Australia. In addition, the Great Wall Florid sedan to go on sale next month domestically is expected to enter the overseas markets as well.
One of Great Wall Motor's long-term strategies is to explore the global markets. In early October, the company shipped 1,500 pickups to Cuba. This is the first batch of the 4,500 pickups ordered by the Cuban government from the Chinese pickup maker.
